Cannondale Recalls Defective 3T Zepp XL Stems

Cannondale is recalling defective 3T Zepp XL stems it spec'd on about 1,300 road bikes. If you think you have an affected stem, stop using it immediately! The defective stems have been breaking at the front clamp, where bolts have stripped or pulled out of the holes. Cannondale received four reports of stems breaking, including one with a minor injury.

The recalled stems are black with 3T Zepp XL printed in white on the sides and 3T printed in white on the front faceplate.

Cannondale put the stems on 2002-model-year R4000, R5000, Black Lightning and Chain Gang bicycles; 2002- and the 2003-model-year R3000 and the 2003-model-year T6000 Saeco Team Replica bikes. The recalled stems were manufactured in Italy by 3T and distributed by its parent company, Gruppo.

Cannondale dealers sold the stems from March 2001 through July 2002.
